A New Year...

Happy New Year to all visitors!

  1. Hello!
Hope you are all well. This is a FAB idea and thanks to Marina and Valeria for organising it.
Did not get in to see Antonya today, however from what she was saying yesterday Bunty (Yvonne) was going to be in all day - giving her a bit of a pampering session - legs, feet and hands. Hopefully she will feel like a new woman afterwards.
Received a text this morning from Antonya and she said she had a better nights sleep - thanks to Doc Heyward (looking good) making sure she gets a sleeping tablet each night.
    Love to everyone.

  5. Hello everyone again
I just wanted to add the reference to www.nosurrenderbreastcancer.com which seems to be a mine of information, ideas and support.
Kim wants to add a link to the Moonwalk, I think it is a great idea!
Valeria, can you do something about this?
    Bye For Now, Marina

  6. Hi, the following is from the nosurrenderbreastcancer website. It is for Antonya, but also for all of us to understand. Anyone of us could be next. But, there is HOPE and we have to work on it.

    Triple Negative Breast Cancer
If you have been diagnosed with triple negative breast cancer then you have also been given a less than enthusiastic prognosis for a bright and happy future. This is simply not true. First, the name it has acquired is terrible. It sounds foreboding. Here is what it means:

You tested negative for estrogen and progesterone receptors. This means that your body’s naturally occurring hormones are not feeding your cancer cells. Because of this you cannot benefit from anti-hormonal drugs such as Tamoxifen and Armidex. Why? Because you don’t need them! Your cancer is impervious to estrogen and its effects so you do not need a drug to stop the estrogen and progesterone in your body.

That is two negatives. Here is the third.

You tested negative for the Her2/nue oncogene. This means your cancer does not overproduce a protein that promotes cancer growth. This is a good thing. You do not want to be Her2 positive. It is good to be Her2 negative. It also means you cannot benefit from Herceptin, the anti-Her2 drug. That is fine. You don’t need it so why should you take it?

So there are your three negatives.

    Here are your positives:

Your tumor responds better to chemotherapy than tumors that are estrogen and progesterone positive. Chemo works better on you.

If you remain disease free for four or more years the chances are your cancer will not EVER return.

You do not have to take endocrine therapy drugs that have a whole host of side effects that are not pleasant.

And there is emerging research every day into this type of breast cancer that is making the “poor prognosis” moniker a thing of the past.

Please do not despair with this diagnosis. It CAN be beaten.

  7. Hi!
Just been in to see Antonya tonight and she is 'looking good'. Didnpt have such a good night last night, however her Chemo started tonight - Carboplatin/Taxol and she is very positive about it.
Glad you got home safely Marina.
Valeria I have sent you some photos taken while Antonya, Daniel and I were in Rome - hope you get them OK. If not send me a message and I will try again.
    Love to everyone.

  12. Hello!
I was in to see Antonya today - she had a bad morning however once the drugs kicked in she was much brighter. I think the girls in the ward - Emma and Bev keep her going and they all have such a good laugh - especially when they are deciding on which song to choose for Hospital Radio.
Also visiting was her cousin Kyra and her boyfriend Mark from London. It was nice to meet them and Antonya enjoyed catching up with all the news.
    Love to everyone

  13. Hi Everyone
Antonya had a little adventure today in the hospital when she went for a chest x-ray. She is having problems breathing so the doctor wanted to check if she has got a chest infection. By the time I left there was no confirmation from the doctor. She has had a few enebulizers today which seem to help with her breathing and Daniel was a little star as he helped the nurse with one of them. He was great listening to the nurse and taking everything in.

  14. Hello everyone! Me again.
Yesterday Antonya arrived at St Columba's Hospice for some 'respite' before getting home. She is lovely and relaxed and feels like she is on holiday - a chance for her to catch up on some sleep, read some magazines and get all her meals made for her. I think I might book in for a holiday.

  15. Hello everyone!
Sorry for long silence, as you know I am in Slovenia at a meeting held in a monastery (!) with two Internet points for 50 people (!), all working....
But great to hear Antonya is looking great and getting a bit of rest at St Columba and that she will be going home soon.
Are there any arrangements in place for her to have assistance at home as she needs?
If I can help let me know.
Please pass on greetings to Antonya and tell her I will soon be sending photos of the achievement of my group that tonight was awarded a prize for presenting the best "Example" within this meeting context, against 19 other countries!!!!
Love to you all, I am back home tomorrow and communication will be easier!!
    Marina
